I decided to make zucchini bread again tonight, and I remembered to add the baking powder. It turned out good and looked pretty. I spent most of my afternoon cleaning off my desk because the cable person is coming tomorrow to put in a cable modem. Yippie! The desk was in desperate need to be cleaned off. I threw so much crap out. Why was I holding on to so much stuff? And why was it on our desk? I also rearranged furniture and found a good home for my new exercise ball. Now it is up and out of the way.
We, Daria and I, took Charlie to the vet this morning. He had a good checkup, and he only weighs 17.8 lbs. That was less than we thought because he looks huge. Originally, Daria was not going to go with me, but Micah really wanted to go get his new driver's license. He did not want to take her to the DMV, I wonder why. She went to the vet with me, and she sat in every chair in the waiting room. Surprisingly, she talked to the doctor. She informed him Skoonus will be coming to visit him tomorrow, which is true. The visit barely lasted 10 minutes, and we were all back in the car. That is great service! I love our vet. He was really there for us when we had to put Kramer down. I do not know what I will do when he happens to retire.
I wrapped Micah's gifts today, out of sight of Daria. She still has no clue what we are giving daddy, but she did draw with her marker all over the paper. Tomorrow morning, Daria and I will be making French Toast Peach Cobbler for Micah's birthday breakfast. I will be peeling peaches at 7 AM. I would prepare it tonight, but I learned this evening you cannot peel peaches and keep them pretty looking overnight. If the recipe is good, I will post it on the smorgasbord site.

I really do not have anything important to say
Well, it is Monday. I did laundry, returned books to the library, went to the bank, went to Starbucks, mailed bills, made all 3 meals and zucchini bread - which for some stupid reason I forgot to put the baking powder in the mix- made my grocery list, bathed Daria, and finally decided what kind of cake I was going to make Micah for his birthday.
What kind of cake you ask??
Chocolate Devil's Food Cake with Chocolate glaze. I usually call it Chocolate Bundt cake. I have made this cake many times, but it has been a couple of years since the last time I made this. Micah chose this one instead of a chocolate kahula cake. I was leaning towards the chocolate kahula cake, but it was Micah's choice since it is his birthday.
Susan, Micah is turning 32 on Wednesday. So far, I have purchased a new video game controller and dark blue cords and candy. His wish lists are always full of super over priced items, but this year he did better. Daria and I might go out tomorrow and get him some other stuff.
We do not have any big plans, even though Micah is off work for his birthday. I will be taking Skoonus to the vet in the morning, and from 12-4 PM we have to wait for the cable guy to come and install our new Internet service. Yes, we will finally have Internet through a cable modem. It has taken us forever to make the big change, and I finally made the call yesterday. I will also be baking the cake in the morning. I love cake! Daria is very concerned with the candles we are putting on the cake. I do not know if a bundt cake can hold 32 candles.
Tomorrow, Charlie goes to the vet. I have to take the cats separately because it is too much of a challenge to take both cats at the same time. I will be giving a weight report on Charlie tomorrow. Last weigh in, he was 18 pounds! He is our big man.
I am so excited!!! The new season of The Simpsons is starting on Sunday, September 11th! That is 2 Sundays away! I cannot wait. This is the first time in years that it is beginning before November. That means the Halloween episode should air before Halloween. Yippie!!! It takes so little to get me excited.
I think that is all I have to say today. Oh yeah, we had homemade pizza for dinner with soy salami and pineapple tidbits. And yes, Daria picked off all the melted cheese. She likes cheese but not on pizza. Grilled cheese is acceptable though. Enough said.

Topic: Books
Susan from Friday Playdate has a great topic for today: Books
1. Number of books I have owned? Does this mean in my whole lifetime because probably a couple hundred or more. Currently, I have a lot of books. In every room there are shelves and books dominant for decoration. I kept every text book I had and enjoyed in college. It sucks when we move because there is a lot of books to pack and carry.
2. Last book I bought: 1001 Snack Recipes This is great because the whole idea of this recipe book is all recipes are quick and simple, and there is a picture of every recipe.
3. Last book I completed: Does the last book I read Daria count? That is Bernard Goes to School.
4. 5 books that mean a lot to me:
1. Twenty Questions: An Introduction to Philosophy Third Edition Edited by: G. Lee Bowie, Meredith W. Michaels, and Robert C. Solomon
Why: This book was assigned in my first philosophy class I took in college. It is full a wide range of topics with both sides of an argument discussed. I love this book.
2. Food of the Gods By: Terrance McKenna
Why: Any book by Terrance McKenna is a great and informative read. I have read this book more times than I can count. I am afraid what he wrote is true on one level, and I know from experience the words Terrence McKenna told us are very true. I highly recommend all his books and essays. True words of wisdom.
3. Cosmic Trigger Volumes 1, 2, and 3 By: Robert Anton Wilson
Why: Look at the copyright date on these books, and read them and you will be blown away on how accurate it is on our current events. It is freaky. I love anything Robert A. Wilson writes. He is a brilliant man.
4. Journals By: Kurt Cobain
Why: It was a gift from a very special friend, and Nirvana was a big part of my teens and twenty years.
5. Zen without Zen Masters By: Camden Benares
Why: I love this book, and I have read it many times. It is very insightful and puts things in perspective when things are hectic.
Thinking about this final question, I must admit that if I still have a book on my shelf, then it means something important to me. I usually do not keep any book that does not move mean or have some significance.
Thanks for the tag, Susan!

I say "NO" to toy guns
As I mentioned yesterday, we visited my sister's home. She has her hands full with her children, husband, and the pets. Her kids are very close in age, my nephew was under 2 when my niece was born. When I visit, I remember why I did not want to have another baby too close to Daria in age. There are always guarantees when we visit there: it will be loud, Daria will probably witness fights and yelling between siblings, and no one listens to my sister. Which turns into Daria thinks she does not have to listen to me.
Today our visit was the full of guarantees plus a little extra. Now their cat who is a little over a year old is so crazed that it bites people in the face when you get too close. The cat is fixed and declawed, but is insane! It will literally chase you and bite your ankles. That is play. My cats do not play that way. Skoonus and Charlie chase catnip mice and feathers. That is kitty play in our home. Plus running up and down the stairs chasing nothing.
Now let's get to my subject title:
Before I had Daria, I never had any issues with toy guns. I played with squirt guns, made grenades with my brothers. When Daria arrived, I noticed how many toys came with guns, and all of a sudden I became very aware of how guns and 'pretending' to shoot others is everywhere it the toy world. More so in boy toys. It took a few visits to my sister's to realize how many toy guns there are out there, and my nephew seems to own every single toy that shoots. He has things that shoots arrows, bullets, and anything else that flies through the air. All during our visit, my nephew went around shooting his sister, Daria, his mother, and the cat and dog. I do not find it funny or cute. Am I wrong? I do not like to 'pretend' to shoot people, especially mom! It did not just happen one time. This continued throughout our 2 hour visit. Micah would never allow Daria to 'pretend' to shoot her mommy. I did ask him nicely to not shoot things at Daria, but the rest of the household was on their own. I do not know why it bothers me so much, but I do not even feel it looks right. It gives me the same feeling when I see a mother smoking while she is pushing her stroller. That is something that never bothered me before I had Daria.
In my pre-child existence, these things never bothered me. It is so bizarre how parenthood has changed my brain.

Now I can countdown to school
It is official. Today, Daria was completely registered for preschool. I know most of the world is so shocked that I am signing my child up right before September, but it was such a difficult and stressful decision. I had a hard time picking the right one. After talking to way too many preschool teachers, and hearing way too many tuition costs, and contemplating many different weekly schedules, we found a place that has everything we want. The class is in the morning, 3 days a week, the teachers are great and super nice, and Daria will be attending the same preschool I did. I was not planning on calling there, and my mom suggested I see what they had to offer. I was so shocked I liked what I was told, the class schedule was perfect, and the cost was not insane. The stars were lined up for us on this one.
Today, we went to check out the school. Daria loved it. She does not know this yet, but they have a toy train set. She loves trains right now, and that will make her week when she discovers that. The class also has a guinea pig. When I was in school, there were never any pets until junior high. I am so happy she likes it. Before she went to bed, she wanted to know if we were going there tomorrow. I said, no, but we will start a countdown chart to the first day of school. It does not begin until September 19th. The week before we have a little orientation with the other kids and parents.
I cannot believe what a difficult task it was to pick a school for her. I am dreading registering for kindergarten. And yes, I will do it early, I promise. Now, I will move on to my next anxiety attack of having to meet new parents and children. What kind of friends will Daria meet at preschool? Will I like them? Will the parents like her and me? I love my child, but it is other children that frighten me. Will Daria be drawn to the most annoying kid in the class or will that kid be my child? Will she listen to the teacher? I hope she does not start screaming her classic, I Want To Be Nice, when the teachers ask her to do something. Will she be as dramatic in school as she is at home?
So many questions...when will my brain run out of them?

It is Friday
Me: "What do you want to get Daddy for his birthday?"
Daria: "Daddy's Birthday!?"
Me: "Yes, Daria what kind of present do you want to give Daddy?"
Daria: "huh, nothing."
Daria: "Skoonus and Charlie have birthdays."
Me: "Yes, they do."
Daria: "What kind of presents do you want to get the kitties?"
Me: "I do not know. What would you like to give them?"
Daria: "Kitty bowls."
Daria: "Daddy's Birthday!?"

Luckily, I have already purchased some of Micah's birthday gift. If it was up to Daria, I am afraid the cats would only receive gifts. I could not tell her I have Daddy's present, let alone I am hiding it in her room, because she cannot keep any new information to herself these days. She is still talking about the dead baby penguin from the penguin documentary.
Tomorrow we are going to my sister's to visit and give my niece her birthday gift. Please wish me luck, it can be very hectic in that home. I usually leave there making sure I did not forget to take The Pill that day.
Happy Dreams in dreamland.

I am cool!
Yesterday, Daria and I played outside for many hours. While she was going down her slide, she yelled, "Mommy you are cool." I said, "thank you, Daria." That moment must be cherished because as she gets older I will most likely become less and less cool. I wish I knew what triggered in her mind to tell me that.
My neck pain is gone. Yippie!! I owe all my gratitude to Icy Hot and muscle relaxers. It is so nice to be able to turn quickly. I did not realize how much I did that motion every day all day. I am so happy I can pick anything up off the floor. It has been a good day.
Have I mentioned Micah's birthday is next week? I have no idea what we are going to do. I hope he decides, but usually I will have to come up with something. He wants some sort of chocolate cake. I am on the search for a recipe, maybe one I have not tried. I purchased some of his gifts today. Daria is now at an age where I cannot tell her what we bought Daddy because she will tell him as soon as she sees him. I am loving her pure honesty right now, but sometimes it is a bit much. Micah cannot get away with anything when she is around because she informs me on everything I miss when I am not home.
My friend, Renae, and her daughter are coming over tomorrow. It is a work visit because Renae needs my math skills to help her daughter, who is 11, with her math workbook. I am a dork, and I love math. It was one of my favorite subjects in school, and doing math problems is something I consider fun. They are like little games. I hope I can give away some of my love and knowledge of numbers and math. Renae is brilliant, but she does not like math or know how to explain it. I am off to my favorite recipe sites to search for muffin recipe. I think I will serve some sort of chocolate muffins while we learn means, fractions, and A=B.
Peace out.

Here is what I am listening to
I was going to list the top 10 songs I love the best right now, but I have a very difficult time remembering song titles. Instead, I will list the 6 CD's I have in the stereo today.
1. The White Stripes - "Get Behind Me Satan" I love The White Stripes!!!!!
2. and 3. Prince - "The Hits/The B-Sides" discs 1 & 2 Daria can sing along to Purple Rain.
4. Jill Scott - "Who Is Jill Scott?" Her music makes me feel so good inside.
5. Jill Scott - "Beautifully Human" Her music is just so good.
6. Morphine - " Yes" I am happy to say I have seen this band live because the singer passed away a few years ago. Every album rocks!

feelin' better
I can move today!
Icy Hot was rubbed on my neck and back last night, and I woke up feeling better and able to dress myself without whimpering. Hooray for Icy Hot!
I am off to think of 10 songs I am listening to right now. What a challenge! I have the hardest time remembering names of songs, people, and anything else in between.

if only I could move
The good news:
I have been sitting up completely straight all day long. There has been no slouching, my chin has been up, and my back has been straight like a board.
The BAD news:
I woke up this morning with a horrible pain shooting out of my neck. Actually, lower neck, on the right side by my shoulder blade. I cannot pick anything off the floor without crying my eyes out. I cannot look down when I walk. I can look up! Doing laundry was torture because I dropped every sock on the laundry room floor. My head has started to ache because the pain is moving up. I have to turn completely around because my neck will not go that way today.

reception update
SoNotMartha asked why the wedding started so late....
I swear this is the truth:
The bride's hair was not done to her liking and it had to be fixed. I am so happy I was not sitting in a church with my 4 year old for an hour and a half waiting for the bride to make her hair pretty enough. My brain would have exploded.
This is why the world scares me so much.

reception - or lack of
Last night was the wedding and reception of 12 bridesmaids. I was being a wonderful wife and told Micah he did not have to attend the reception with Daria and I. He was going to watch a H.P. Lovecraft movie marathon with the guys. I do not know why I said such a thing because I really hate being the single parent at functions. Daria and I begin to adventure to downtown Tacoma. The destination was 10 or less minutes away, and it took another 10 minutes to find a free and close parking spot. I have lived in Tacoma most of my life, and I refuse to (at all costs) to pay to park, I mean c'mon, it is Tacoma!
We park, and my spot was good, only a block away from the Marriot.
I will also mention that I spent all day on what to wear to the event. The day was hot, so I did not want to be too warm, but I did not want to look like I just left the beach. I realized I need new clothes because I do not have good summer going out clothes. Enough about my lame wardrobe.
We went inside, and found the room where the reception was being held. Daria and I walked in and the whole room was empty. There were wait staff standing in the hallway, so I asked the hostess when the wedding party was arriving. Now, the ceremony was over 2 hours ago, so I figured people should be there by then. At least, some guests. The hostess informed me, the wedding started a hour and a half late, and then there was a cake reception at the church. I knew nothing about that! No cake at the reception, what is up with that??
The hostess informed me that dinner was not being served until 7! I was a little shocked, and thinking there is no way I can stand around here for 2+ hours with my 4 year old and wait. That would be the longest 2 hours of my life. I was bummed because I wanted to see the dresses, 12 bridesmaids, phoniness, and the hype that comes with it. I gave our gift to the hostess, and gently persuaded Daria to leave. (I bribe her with springrolls and an ice cream treat.) Did I mention she yelled in the fancy Marriot, "I want to go to the reception!"? That was the only thing she did yell, thank goodness.
I find it very funny that this was one of the first functions I allowed Micah to get out of, and I did not even have to go too. I must of had good Karma yesterday. I am sad I do not have any good reception stories, I was hoping for good writing material all week.

farewell to the Fishers
Final episode of Six Feet Under airs tonight.
I am sad to see this great show go away forever.
The last episode is 75 minutes long. I hope I do not use up all the tissue. Series finales usually make me cry, I was a blubbering idiot when Sex & the City ended. The final episodes still make me weepy. I do not know why, but I am a fool like that.

another day
Ate breakfast
Exercised for 40 minutes
Showered
Started laundry
Went to library
Played puzzles
Talked to anyone who listened
Checked out books and movies
Daria was behaving and listening
It was pleasant
Went to the bank
Daria read her books in the car
Mailed bills
Went to the Mandolin Cafe for coffee beverage for me and molasses cookie for Daria
Came home
Hung laundry outside
It was very warm today
Washed Daria's castle
Filled the kiddie pool
Daria was insisting I make lunch
I still had some phone calls to make
No one was around, so I left messages
Read Daria a science book about spiders
Then I made lunch
Picked out a brownie recipe to make
I ate a piece of leftover pizza
Daria finished lunch
She went grabbed a book and went potty
She loves to read on the potty
Brushed her teeth
Read a story about the letter 'd' and 'd' words
Turned on Bob Marley and turned off the light
Went to the kitchen to make Raspberry Bars
Did dishes
Checked e-mail
Took bars out of the oven
Finished reading e-mail
Daria woke up
She looked like she actually slept
We lathered up with sunscreen
Grabbed all the necessities to sit by the pool
Played in the pool for a couple of hours
Took the laundry off the line
Persuaded Daria out of the pool with Raspberry Bars
Helped Daria dry off and zip up her dress
Fed her a Raspberry Bar
Put clothes away
Decided to take another shower, too fucking hot
Daria finished her snack
She wanted to watch Scooby Doo - Vampire Movie
I gave in to take a shower
Phone rang
Jumped in the shower
Micah came home from work
He brought home chicken and it is raw
He has to cook and deal with it
Daria informed me she wanted small sandwiches and carrots for dinner
She wants her Disney cup, also
Small sandwiches = grilled cheese with soy bacon, cut into small squares or triangles
She loves them
I ate egg tortillas with soy bacon
Micah was going out and took his chicken with him
Micah and his friend are going to make chicken pizza
I am happy I do not have to smell it cook
We finished dinner
We went outside to put the pool away and pick up toys
I cleaned the kitchen
Scooped out litter box
Swept the floors
Brushed teeth and flossed
Went back outside to play because it was too damn hot inside
Tossed and kicked the ball around
Went back inside to get Daria ready for bed
She picked out a new book for the bathroom
Brushed teeth and dressed for bed
Read a Snoopy book about farms for bedtime
Turned on Bob Marley and turned off the light
Went out to water the plants
Gave the neighbor cats some nip
Sat down to watch Arrested Development marathon
It rocked!
Looked at more shoes online
Read blogs
Tomorrow is the wedding with 12 bridesmaids
I am hoping for good writing material from it
I am tired
Morning will be here before I want it
Happy dreams
Exercised for 40 minutes
Showered
Started laundry
Went to library
Played puzzles
Talked to anyone who listened
Checked out books and movies
Daria was behaving and listening
It was pleasant
Went to the bank
Daria read her books in the car
Mailed bills
Went to the Mandolin Cafe for coffee beverage for me and molasses cookie for Daria
Came home
Hung laundry outside
It was very warm today
Washed Daria's castle
Filled the kiddie pool

I love the Bluth family
Friday night is now laugh my ass off night.
Fox is running a 2 hour Arrested Development marathon on Fridays. I have been looking forward to it all day long. I love the Bluth family, almost as much as the Simpsons.
Everyone should watch this show because the dialogue is simply brilliant.
It is so funny it makes me cry.
I love laughing that hard.

Dinner Menu
I tried a great new recipe for dinner tonight. I found this in one of my step-mom's food magazines. I do not remember the name of it. It is simple and does not take much time.
Basil-Parmesan Angel Hair
12 servings
1 pkg. (16 oz.) angel hair pasta
2 TBS. olive oil
1 can (12 oz.) fat-free evaporated milk (I used regular)
2/3 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions
1/4 cup minced fresh basil
1 tsp. lemon peel, grated
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. pepper
additional basil
12 lemon slices
Cook pasta according to package. Drain & return to the pan. Add oil; toss to coat. Add the milk, cheese, onions, basil, lemon peel, salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Cook & stir over medium heat until heated through. Sprinkle with additional basil. Serve w/ lemon.
I also made baguettes. My recipe makes two loaves. One was for garlic bread, I think I will make croutons with the second loaf. I have never made my own croutons before.
Today is Charlie's birthday. Two years ago today, Charlie came to live with us. He was probably a year old then, so he is 3. He was skin and bone, and his hair was so nappy. I will make a vet appointment tomorrow for his check-up. I am curious if he is over 18 lbs. He is a very big boy. He is going to have some fresh nip from the garden for an extra treat tonight.
I cannot believe I missed the Tommy Lee show last night. I completely forgot about it, which surprises me.

Sunday night
I almost forgot to talk about the television I viewed last night.
First of all, I watched and truly enjoyed the second to last episode ever of "Six Feet Under." I am going to miss the Fisher family so much.
Then, I watched "Entourage." I do not love this show, but it is entertaining, and it makes me chuckle.
Then, after Micah came home, we watched most of the Roast of Pam Anderson. We missed the first 30 minutes, and I will catch that some other time. This was pretty damn funny. Really bad jokes for adult only ears. It should of been on HBO, so there would not be so much beeping. Very good, a must watch.
I am very happy to say tomorrow the weather will be 10 degrees cooler. I cannot wait. Since I baked this evening, the temperature rose to 85+, and upstairs is so much worse. I can already feel the cooler air coming through the windows. Yippie, maybe I will become chill during the night and need a blanket. I cannot wait!
Next Saturday is the wedding with the 12 bridesmaids. I learned today the lovely bride and groom altered their gift lists at Target and Macy's because they only want people to give them money for their honeymoon in Mexico. I really cannot stand when people do that. I know it is their choice, but it is so lame. I will rebel and not give cash. I was thinking something practical and useful, maybe a box of condoms and diapers. They could of registered for those items at Target.
Micah and I were watching QVC - for no reason. They were selling a 3 layer Boston Cream Pie. It looked so delicious. I have never ordered anything off TV. It sold for $29.75 plus $11.95 for shipping and handling. If I ordered silly items off the TV, we would be expecting cake in the mail. I wonder how long it takes to arrive.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Nut Muffins
http://bread.allrecipes.com/AZ/chcltchcltchipntmffins.asp
I made these tonight for a special treat. This was so simple, and now, one of my favorite chocolate muffin recipes. I did not have whole almonds, so I used chopped almonds. The tops are crunchy, and the best part of the whole muffin. This recipe made 18 muffins, not 12. The more the merrier.
Chocolate goodness.

where are the shoes?
Please answer:
What is your favorite athletic shoe?
I am looking for a new work-out shoe, and I would like anyone's opinion.
Thanks.

you have mail
Instead of finding bills in the mail today, I received a check! I love those kinds of surprises. It was not super big, but it is more money than I had this morning. Yippee!
We spent the afternoon in the kiddie pool. The temperature has shot above 80, and this will be our location for the weekend. Daria insisted I call her 'mermaid' all day. And she made me a blue cake in the pool. She has an amazing imagination. This scene went on all day. I have no idea what will be playing tomorrow.
The squirrels finally found our sunflowers. I sure hope they do not eat my basil. They ripped the plants out last year. So far, we have been lucky. The possums keep crapping on our roof. I really hate those creatures. Does anyone know their purpose?

here goes
Am I the only person who thinks we do not need to change daylight savings? It will still be cold in March when we are springing forward in 2007, and it will still begin to get dark earlier before we fall back later in the fall. Doesn't the Earth and the sun have a lot to do with how long our days and nights are? I really do not get why this small portion of the ignorant energy bill Bush wanted so badly is getting all the hype and positive feedback. What about the Arctic? Rainforests? National parks and forests? What about the ridiculous amounts of money big corporations are making off this bill? Where is all the rage from normal and intelligent America? Can someone shake Dubbya until his head rolls down the street? Why can't he take an hour to meet with the mother who is protesting in Texas? What is he doing on his vacation that is so fucking important?
I had to call the cable company yesterday because my On Demand was not working. They told me at 9 in the morning that someone would be out between 12 and 4, so I waited, patiently. At 3:57, the appointment woman called and told me the techs were running late, and she did not know when someone would be there. She could not give me any specific time. She informed me that they work until all the appointments are done. I asked if someone would be showing up at my home at 10 PM or whenever. She informed me there is no way to give me any time frame. I still wanted this fixed because it hasn't worked for 3 days, so I agreed to keep our appointment and wait for someone to show up whenever. I did, however, ask the woman what she was going to do for me because I have been waiting 4 hours for someone to show up. She is going to credit our account $20.00! I was happy with that because we were credited for 3 days of no service earlier. I feel I was coming out ahead, even though I was still waiting. The cable guy finally showed up after 5, I really thought it was going to be much later. He claimed the splinter (whatever that is) needed to be replaced and maybe the box. Funny thing, the last cable issue we had, 9 months ago, that cable guy replace the splinter, and it still did not fix anything. Personally, I think the problem is in the connection on the street. Yesterday, the guy replaced the box and splinter and then he sat and watched TV for 10 minutes! Actually, it was longer because I was unable to begin dinner until after 6. He appeared to fix the problem last night. But, this morning when I was trying to access the On Demand, the same error appeared on the screen. I so did not want to call the cable company again because I had things to do today, but I really wanted this issue fixed. I started to dial the number and checked the cable one more time. Well, it worked when I was calling. Go figure!
Oh yeah, we had black bean mole and coconut couscous for dinner last night. I am not sure about tonight yet. We have fresh green beans from my step-mom's garden. Maybe pizza.
Cheesecake tasted delicious! I cannot think of a favorite dip. I love the jalapeno artichoke dip at Metropolitan Market (formally Queen Anne Thriftway). I could eat it by the bucket.

kahula white russian cheesecake
For my dad's birthday, I made him a Kahula White Russian Cheesecake. This is one I have not made before. The recipe has been in my binder for years. The crust alone smelled so yummy - butter, sugar, kahula, chopped almonds, and graham cracker crumbs. The batter included kahula and vodka. I used vanilla vodka. Mm..vanilla vodka, one of the best creations ever. I was happy to say it did not crack, but it would not matter because there is a sour cream topping w/ toasted coconut. I wonder if heaven smells like toasted coconut and snickerdoodles?
Did I mentioned Daria asked during the penguin movie if she could clap at the end? She stood up and clapped when the credits started to roll.

my day kept on getting better
I survived the painting extravaganza. Daria enjoys painting/drawing one line and telling me she is finished and wants a new piece of paper. I finally persuaded her to come inside for a treat, and so I could finally take a shower.
Daria ate her snack, and I folded laundry. She wanted to watch her frog movie from the library. The Wiggles went back today, thank goodness. I wanted to take a shower before I started dinner and cleaned up the kitchen. I set up the movie. I go upstairs to put my stuff away. I see my lovely cat, Skoonus, sleeping on the floor. I pick her up to cuddle and lay on the bed for a minute or two before I shower. As I lay there on our bed, I feel a strange wetness on my thigh. As I am petting my wonderful pet, I realize I am laying in her puke. The damn cat vomited on the bed, and then she moved to the floor to finish her nap. The hairball infested puke soaked through all of our blankets - comforter, blanket, top and bottom sheets, and my pants. YUCK! I love my cats, but the vomiting is the worse thing they do. Did I not just get done doing a load of laundry? And I changed the sheets yesterday! Usually her throwing up occurs in the morning around sunrise at the foot of the bed. On my 30th birthday, I was awaken by Skoonus almost throwing up on me. I tossed her on the floor and whispered happy birthday to myself from my loving cat who I rescued from the pound.
After stripping the bed and cursing at the cat, I was able to shower quickly, so I could begin another load of laundry before dinner.
While I was making dinner, my wonderful sister called to talk about herself. When I mentioned what I did today, she changed the subject back to herself. I said I had to go and make dinner right now, bye, bye. I should of just let the machine answer. This is the same sister who called us frantic on Sunday because her computer would not work. After asking her if she checked all the plugs and connections, and she said she did. She called back 10 minutes later telling us the mouse was not plugged into the USB. Again, should not have answered the phone. Might change the number and not tell anyone in the family.
Tomorrow Daria and I are going to see the Penguin movie. I hope I do not cry because I heard it was sad. The big theatre with the comfy seats is playing it, and that is better than the independent theatre downtown - the seats there are not as good.
James Spader is back on TV tonight. I really like his character on Boston Legal. I actually love everything James Spader has been in. The movie The Secretary was different, but a good James Spader movie. Denny Crane is very silly. I do not think it is new episode, but I am happy it is back. I like the fact Al Sharpton has been on the show a few times. After Al Sharpton's speech at the Democratic Convention last year, I think he rocks!
I am off to check movie times.

not raking the yard today
I know I said I would rake the yard today, and it really needs to be done. It just is not going to happen.
Alarm went off at 7:15, and to everyone's surprise, Daria was not in our bed. That is why Skoonus was purring so loud. I cannot believe Daria slept in. Yes, it is so sad 7:15 is sleeping in.
After throwing clothes on and washing my face, I checked on Daria and she had waken up. The crisis and quest this morning was where were her plastic colored bracelets because no one can start the day without them. Well, I could not find them, oh darn. I just wanted to go get my grocery shopping done and over. 20 minutes later I escaped out the back door, and I was so happy to see overcast weather. It is sunny now and warming up. It was nice to have a cool start to the day.
When I came home from the store and put all the stuff away. Daria helped by squeezing every bag and telling me how much she liked yogurt. The bananas will turn yellow soon, too. I had a great idea to go to Target and run out and see Grandma Dorothy, who lives in assisted living, all by myself. When I told Micah my plan, Daria wanted to go to Target and sit in the big cart. Oh well, off we went. We had a two bags of stuff to bring Grandma Dorothy, so it would be a productive visit.
Target was good. I am proud to say there were no bad, unnecessary purchases. We just picked up what we needed. I did not find a suitable wedding gift. They are registered there, but I did not like the list that much.
We traveled out to East Tacoma and visited Grandma Dorothy. We walked in her room and of course, she was fast asleep in bed. It was almost 11 AM at this point. She is always asleep when we visit, no matter what time of day it is. It must be the vicadin and morphine she gets to take daily. It is just freaky to wake her up or find her sleeping. She did know who we were, but when I was out of the room, she kept calling Daria "Adria" and asking how kindergarten is going. Daria responded she likes it a lot, but she is not in kindergarten yet. I am glad she is playing along. Did I mention she cannot hear and has dementia? She is very happy. Who wouldn't be?
We left there and went to Starbucks. There is a great drive-thru one right by Grandma Dorothy's place. Everyone was happy.
We arrived home to throw in a load of laundry and listen to Micah complain about his tummy ache from eating too much crap on his weekend. He was on his way to work. He is closing tonight, and hopefully, the ginger tea helped his aches and discomforts. We waited for the wash to finish, so I could hang it up outside. Then off to the library and back to make lunch.
Lunch was quick, and Daria's nap was very short-lived. In fact, she just woke up. That was too short, but she wants to go out and paint for awhile today. She lives to paint. Now I will check the laundry on the line. It is only 2 now and bedtime is not until 8 or later. It might be 8 tonight.

Christmas songs in August
Daria picked out a Wiggles DVD at the library last week. Nowhere on the cover does it say that there are Christmas songs on it. Why? Why are the Wiggles trying to torture parents in August? It is bad enough Daria is going around singing Feliz Navidad, but I have on more than one occasion started singing it in my head or worse, out loud. It is supposed to be the Hot Potato show, why is Santa there? Where is the holiday sticker on the outside of the box?
The sad thing is I do need to begin my list for gifts this holiday season. I like to have my idea list done in Aug./Sept. Darn Wiggles!
Micah and Daria washed my car today. It made me happy that it was Micah's suggestion, not mind. I was secretly wishing he would, but I know how much he likes to do that chore. Daria is a great helper, although she stops cleaning on her terms. Her popsicle was melting, and it had to be eaten immediately.
Finally, today I received my free copy of www.bodyandsoulmag.com. I sent away for my free copy a month ago, and they, of course, sent me the bill first. I must say I really enjoyed my first look over the whole magazine. I am planning to make the mango pesto this week. I am seriously considering a subscription. I like that it talks about chakras because I have been trying to activate mine. It is difficult to focus and be aware of where the energy is. I have a workbook, but I take time off from it every now and then.
New pictures are coming soon. I dropped film off today. I have been carrying it around for a week or two. It felt nice in my purse. I do not remember all that is on the roll. I need to take more pictures, but I always forget to bring the camera. Or if I bring it with me, I forget to take it out at the Kodiak moments.

Okay, here I go again.
66. My first car, I was 16, was a 1979 Volare. It was blue, and my friends and I called it 'Bluebell'. It did not have a grill. You could not unlock the driver's door. I would have to unlock the passenger's door and crawl through.

71. I made lots of sample cakes before the reception, and that was fun too.
72. I have attended family reunions in Minnesota and Helmville, Montana. Helmville is just a road with a saloon w/ post office and farms. In Minnesota, I touched a cow's tongue and wandered around corn fields.

Monday
We did not attend the family BBQ because of sickness. I still made the bars, and I did not want to eat any until Sunday. I could not taste anything for days. That is probably why my shorts fit better. Go sickness!
I could not believe what I was hearing this morning while I was exercising on the nordic track, Peter Jennings passed away. I was sweating and weeping for an hour this morning. I have watched him since I was so young. I cannot believe he will not be back. I loved his witty humor and great remarks during the news and interviews. My Grandma Dorothy loved him because he was Canadian (so is she). Then, I spent a whole hour last night while watching Six Feet Under sobbing because Nate died. I feel like an emotional wreck. Micah could not believe I cried last night. After the show was over I found something funny to watch so I would not go to sleep too sad. I feel so silly admitting all of this now. But, c'mon, who did not cry during the last episode of Sex & the City???
Made a great drink over the weekend:
raspberry vodka
pineapple juice
ice
stir and oh my, enjoy

good morning
I am still feeling yucky, but better than yesterday. I took some Nyquil last night, and right now, I am finally feeling awake. It is 2 in the afternoon. I love the sleep Nyquil gives, but the morning after is such torture.
The search is on for what to bring to the BBQ tomorrow. I am thinking about streussel bars with chocolate and raspberries. www.verybestbaking.com has wonderful recipes, and most have pictures, my favorite.

Yuck
I mentioned a few days ago that I thought I was coming down with a cold. I felt better yesterday, but today I am extra hot, stuffy nose and a little cough. YUCK! The temperature outside has not even peaked yet! The news said it is going to be 90+ degrees today. I wonder if there will be a heat advisory. Like I need the news to tell me it is fucking hot! I think I will go insane from the heat today, yippie! Daria, of course, wants a funfilled day, but I was just wishing she was sick with me. I really do not want her to be sick, but I would like us to be sick together. I really do not want Micah to get sick because there is nothing worse than a sick husband in the summer or anytime of year. I will admit I felt better for a brief moment after my 30 minute cardio workout this morning, but the feeling of goodness did not last long.
I am just hoping I can stay awake long enough to watch the new episode of Being Bobby Brown. I know, I am sick in the head.

We went to the zoo last week with my mom while she was visiting. Looking at this picture makes me feel a little cooler. Tomorrow it is going to be over 90 degrees. I think my brain might officially turn to mush.
I must also mention we did order Thai from Wild Orchid the other night. It was a big disappointment because I asked for spicy #4, and it was not spicy at all. I was just not as fun eating it. We discussed trying another Thai restaurant up the road called Silk Thai. I will pick up menu soon. Let's keep our fingers cross. I did love our coconut shrimp. That is the best, and it comes with peanut sauce for dipping. I love the sauce.
I am a dancer & no can tell me otherwise
What I am most embarrassed about at this moment: watching the Fox dance show. This guy is crying right now during his dance. He is looking in for his feeling. It was so emotional - I just do not get it. I think the teacher is on something, what is she drinking in her "coffee" cup?
I can go to www.fox.com and vote for my favorite move of the week.
We are attending a family BBQ this Saturday. We will be celebrating my dad's birthday. My sister is hosting the event. It is a potluck. I am bringing a dessert, of course. Now, I am on the search for the yummiest of the yummy. I like to try new recipes on large groups. First, I need to decide if the treat is going to be in cake, brownie, cookie, or other form.
In 2 more Saturdays, we are invited to a wedding. The bride in this wedding has 12 bridesmaids! I do not think we will be going to the ceremony, but we will attend the reception. It is in downtown Tacoma, and it is at the new Marriot. I have not been inside of it yet. I really do not enjoy buying wedding gifts for people we do not see ever or talk to. I am anxious to see what the bride's dress will look like. I say this because she is 3+ months pregnant with her 3rd child. The mother of the bride wants to make this a really big deal, even though it is her 2nd wedding. It will be over the top. Did I mention the groom is the preacher's son, and according to my sister, he is a really good guy and all? They must attend a church that does not frown upon premarital intercourse. I am not sure with congregation it is. I will pass it on when I learn.
I was just thinking I have all the materials to learn how to knit, I just need to try and learn. I think it would be hard, but I would love to knit some holiday gifts. Knitting is all the rage. I think there is a TV show on with women sitting around knitting and chatting. Why and how is that on the air?
I think this enough babble for now.

Look at this little fact I found today...
I received this in my e-mails this afternoon, and I really had to share with all.
VALUES -- NICE WORK, IF YOU CAN GET IT: As he begins a five-week stay at his Crawford ranch, George Bush should take heart in knowing heÂll break at least one presidential record: the Washington Post reports this morning that he is on course to shatter Ronald ReaganÂs all-time high for most presidential vacation days. With three and a half years left in his second term, Bush has already spent 319 days on vacation  almost 20% of his time in office. Reagan, another president famous for his ranching retreats, spent 335 days on vacation spread across 8 years. "I'm looking forward to getting down there and just kind of settling in," Bush told reporters at a roundtable on Monday, before the trip.
I must say WOW!
Micah brought home Tofutti Cutties last night. He said they were on sale and could not resist. This is an dessert treat sent straight from heaven. They contain no dairy, no cholesterol, and are the most delicious! You can find them in the ice cream section, and yes, they are made with tofu. They are so good you just do not want to share. I guess that is why he bought 2 boxes. I think I might eat one right now.
I asked Daria today if she could be nice, and she screamed at me "I want to be nice!"
That is the new thing if she is in trouble or just in a really bad mood. If she wants to, can't she just do it?
Oh, I hear footsteps, must go.

where I was in 1994...
I was 20 years old. I did not turn 21 until December. I moved out on my own for the first time. I lived with my friend, Michelle, who was pregnant. We only lived together for a few short months because her folks insisted she move back home with the baby. I had to move in with my Grandma Bacon, and I stayed there for 9 months. It was a very interesting time, and you have to know Grandma Bacon to appreciate that. I moved 3 times that year. That makes my brain hurt now.
In January 1994, I found Skoonus at the pound. She was so precious and soft sitting in the cage. She had the most beautiful green eyes and black fur. I knew we were meant to be.
I worked at Tower Records as the book/magazine buyer. I worked 40 hours a week from 3:30 pm-12:30 am. I really loved that schedule at the time. I could wear anything I wanted to work and have my hair any color. Purple was the choice for most of the year. I also interned for a record label and worked for a charity collecting unused food at large concerts. I saw a lot of rock shows in Seattle, Olympia, Tacoma, and Portland. I can state that 1994 was the year of sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll for me. Both sets of parents lived miles away, and I did not see many of my siblings. It was a great time.
I dated a guy named Reno Dave. He was from Reno and in a band. We met through his roommate who I worked with. I also met Micah somewhere in 1994. We met through mutual friends, and he was in a band and lived in the party house. He still lived there when we started dating in 1996. Okay, back to the past. The Reno Dave relationship lasted a long time but was not serious, 9 months long. It was not a sad break-up. There was no great love of 1994. My heart was waiting for 1996, I guess.
I had a fake ID made so I could see one of my favorite bands at the Crocodile Cafe. The band is Kyuss, they rock. I only used it for that one occasion. I was from Florida on my new ID. I do not think I even drank at the bar. I was just there to see the band.
It seems that 1994 is a world away from today. I like what I see when I look back, but I am happy where I am at now. Even though, I did not think I would end up living happily in Tacoma. I know all that took place in 1994 help make the path that lead me to today. I know that sounds so corny. That is just the kind of cornball I am.

summer colds
Today is the only overcast day we will be blessed with this week, and I am starting to feel like I am getting some sickness. The feeling is in my throat - the good news is I felt this way yesterday. I am hoping it will just go away. There is nothing worse than having a cold in the summer. It sucks, and where did I pick this up from?
We are eating Thai food tonight, so I can set my insides on fire with curry and garlic. Wild Orchid is my new favorite Thai restaurant in town. I love that it is right down the street. We call and then, usually, Micah picks it up. On our anniversary this year, we ate inside the restaurant for the first and only time. Still great. I think I am going for the basil curry, spicy #4 tonight. Daria loves the tofu and veggie spring rolls and the sauce. The sauce is always the best part when you eat out.
I plan to make pudding pops today, since the super sunny weather will be back tomorrow and beyond. Pudding pops are no longer found in my grocer's freezer. Do they still sell them? Here is the recipe I have found:
1 (3.9 oz.) instant chocolate pudding mix, or any flavor you desire
1/2 cup sugar
3 cups milk
In a mixing bowl, combine pudding, sugar, and milk. Mix well. Pour mixture into popsicle molds. Freeze for 3+ hours, until frozen. Enjoy the goodness.
