I want a Siesta Sak!
I think it is love at first sight!
There is absolutely no extra space in the home right now for something that cool.
The moment there is space and cash for this wonderful invention I will convince my husband how much of an asset this will be for our home.
I love that it is XXL.

it did not snow much here
Now it did snow in this area today, but not anywhere I was. It did not stick when the big flakes came down starting at 10 am. Then by noon, it turned to rain again, and everything was turning to slushy mush. It sucks to walk through. Daria told me she saw the big flakes, but she did not make a snowman. She is looking forward to building a huge snowman.
Today, I adventured out to finish up the holiday shopping, and I even went to the mall. I did pretty good, and I only have two more kid gifts to buy. I am going to Big Lots to accomplish that task. I decided I am going to make soap again this year, green tea and cucumber bars. This weekend I will begin my first round of baking for the goodies I am shipping out next week. Cookies are the main attraction for the first round.
Speaking of next week, next Tuesday, Daria turns 5! I cannot believe my baby girl is going to be 5 years old! On Monday, I am bringing brownies and juice to her class for her birthday celebration. She gets to make a birthday crown in class that day. She will be so excited and thrilled - I cannot wait. On her birthday, I think we will go and visit Santa. We might adventure to the zoo if the weather is permitting - there is a light show there after dark. Daria requested a chocolate cake with white frosting. I am not sure which recipe I will choose, but it needs to be a round cake, according to the birthday girl.
Okay, I am off to search and drool over chocolate cake recipes.

Hooray
Some are stamped and waiting to hit the mailbox
Half of the decorations are up
I just started and finished Daria's holiday shopping
And Micah's - well, I started his shopping
Yippie
I love shopping online
Even though, I still cannot find anything to buy my in-laws
That is my goal for the following week
I am off to a good holiday start and I hope I can keep this up

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all, and here is a great picture of our nation's leader from Dlisted. (I love this site.) I think he looks so shocked because he is enjoying the turkey attention!
Cheesecake update:
The cheesecake looks wonderful, no cracks. Smells so yummy, cannot wait to taste it!

Tuesday night dinner
Garlic Bubble Ring and Tofu Parmigiana and a green salad
I set up two pages, one for each cat, at Catster.com. I discovered this site yesterday, and I found it so cute and fun.
I watched the first hour of the American Music Awards. This was one of the most torturous 60 minutes of my day. Is this what America is listening to? The fashion will probably be all over the Fugly-type sites tomorrow. I was just killing time while I browse the Internet for holiday gifts and wait for House to start.
Tomorrow:
baking Butterscotch Caramel Cheesecake

say cheese....
Butterscotch Caramel Cheesecake
This is the cheesecake I finally picked to make for Thanksgiving dinner
The runner's up....
Black Bottom Cheesecake
and
Toffee Crunch Caramel Cheesecake
And now by popular request...
my recipe for homemade mac-n-cheese
12 oz. macaroni pasta or penne pasta
8 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, grated
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
2 cups milk
favorite dried herbs, like ground mustard, garlic powder, italian seasoning, and pepper
1/4 cup parmesan cheese
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease an 8x8 glass baking dish. Cook pasta until al dente. Drain. Place half of pasta in the dish, top with half of the grated cheddar cheese, top with rest of pasta and top with the rest of the cheese.
In a med. saucepan melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for one minute. Take off heat and whisk in milk. Return to heat, add seasoning, whisk constantly until sauce begins to thicken - this will take about 10 minutes or less. When sauce is thicken pour over pasta and cheese. Top with parmesan cheese and seasoned breadcrumbs.
Bake in oven for about 25 minutes, or until lightly browned and bubbly.
I sometimes add a can of diced tomatoes to this recipe. Either way it is yummy and a very easy dinner.
On a off note...
Last night's ER was one of the best episodes....fast pace and a good ending...

Hot Lemon
We just had a cold earlier last month.
The cough lasted forever, and I was so happy when it finally ended.
The first two days of the latest cold I suffered with a sinus headache, so I took Nyquil when I went to bed.
This made me feel like I was in a daze for 2 days and that was not good.
Yesterday, the sinus headaches transformed into an annoying cough.
I found a recipe for Hot Lemon when I did a google search of herbal cold remedies.
Now, I must praise the power of the lemon!
I am so impressed with its strength.
I did not cough last night.
I woke up feeling better than I have the last few mornings I have opened my eyes.
Hooray for the lemon!
it is falling out
I looked in her mouth and saw nothing unusual.
Later, when I gave her dinner, I asked her if her teeth still hurt and she told me "they were falling out."
I was like "what!"
"What do you mean they are falling out?"
She touched her tooth - bottom right front tooth.
She wiggled it a little.
I touched it in disbelief, and sure enough, it was loose.
I told her the tooth was loose because her permanent teeth were growing.
She was a little freaked out, but I told her how exciting it is that her permanent teeth are growing.
We looked at a book about it - to reassure her I knew what I was talking about.
We went over and over what to do when the tooth falls out - bring it to Mommy immediately, DO NOT eat it!!
I cannot believe the tooth fairy will be visiting our home in the next few days!
I thought I had another year until this event.
When Daria and I went to the store on Saturday, we had a blue parrot with us.
As we were driving to the store she told me from the backseat - "I have a blue parrot."
She was holding her arm up like she was holding a bird.
When I helped her out of the car and took her hand because we were in a parking lot - she informed me I could not hold her hand because the blue parrot was there.
I asked her to move the parrot to the other arm.
She moved it.
All throughout the grocery store, she had her arm held up because she was carrying a blue parrot,
AND
she was squawking like a parrot.
I told she was a silly girl when we got back into the car.
Then she told me she was not a silly girl, she was a yellow fish.
She is my yellow fish carrying around a blue parrot.
The blue parrot stayed with us for most of the day.
The yellow fish thing has been going on for a few days now.
For Daria's birthday next month, we bought her the Thomas the Train set.
And some Imaginarium tracks and Percy - he is a useful engine.
This is a new collection for her, and she has been telling us how much she would want trains for her birthday or from Santa.
I really cannot wait to give it to her because she is going to be so excited about it.
Everytime we hear a train or see one - she says "Hello Thomas" or "That's Gordon, Mommy!"
heads up
You have all read this story by now I would guess: “GOP memo touts new terror attack as way to reverse party's decline.”
It broke in Capitol Hill Blue and probably shocked very few us us which is in itself a comment on the low regard many hold this administration. Wrote Publisher Doug Thomspson:
” A confidential memo circulating among senior Republican leaders suggests that a new attack by terrorists on U.S. soil could reverse the sagging fortunes of President George W. Bush as well as the GOP and "restore his image as a leader of the American people."
“ The closely-guarded memo lays out a list of scenarios to bring the Republican party back from the political brink, including a devastating attack by terrorists that could "validate" the President's war on terror and allow Bush to "unite the country" in a "time of national shock and sorrow."
Funny thing about this story is that this scenario is layed out in Larry Beinhardt’s must read novel The Librarian, a political thriller about a plot to steal an election. Beinhart wrote an earlier novel that inspired the movie “Wag the Dog.” I quote from the book in my report from Amsterdam.

cold - day two
Her class was going on a fieldtrip today to see the totem pole in a park downtown, so we missed it. If it stops raining, I will take her down there to look at it in the next couple of days. Actually, today it is cloudy and not raining. I did get the yard raked, just in time for pick up tomorrow! Raking the yard is my huge accomplishment for today.
Yesterday, I made one of my favorite quick breads, Pina Colada Bread. There is a 1/4 cup of rum in it. It is so tasty, now if I just had a real pina colada to sip while I eat my bread. I am very happy to say I made it to the thrift store yesterday and purchased tins for cookies and jars for BBQ sauces. However, I did not find a cool bottle for the liqueur, maybe I will find it next week when I go back out. I found a cool Eddie Bauer skirt at the thrift store - it is green and very comfy. There is progress being made on the holiday front in our house! Yippie - break out the cake.
What I learned today: November 26th is National Cake Day
Let's not forget about all the cakes to bake and taste!
I am off to drink some cocoa - my nose is chilly.

Here are our halloween pics
We call this one bat-cat.
Isn't she just the cutest black cat? The trick-or-treating version included a black garbage bag.
This cute little cat informed me this evening her throat did not feel good. Great! We all know what kind of talk this leads to. I am eating an orange as I type.
Arrested Development was brilliant and so funny tonight. From 8-9, it was giggles gallore in our living room. 2 new episodes! I was in tears by the end because of Buster and Gob. So great, and of course, Rob Loblaw.
I stuck to my goals and started my holiday lists today. I will go thrift store shopping to search for baskets, jars, and bottles tomorrow. I want to find a cool bottle for the liqueur I have brewing in the darks of my cupboards. I would like to find some cool tins for all the cookies and treats I want to make this year. I have not finished picking out all the goodies I want to make for everyone this year. I will post a list when I narrow it down, or whenever I stop finding yummy recipes I want to try.
Back to my lists and oranges.

what's new
I left the shower feeling that I need to get my act together because my future sister-in-law informed me she already had all her holiday gifts bought and wrapped and hidden at her mother's house. IT'S NOVEMBER 6TH!!! She does have a reason for this - the baby is due a week before Christmas. I just wanted to bow down at her feet for being so organized. Besides being very pregnant, she has 2 children, full-time job, 3 "step" children - need I say more - and she is completely organized for the holidays. She is my hero today.
What I have accomplished for the holidays: started one gift - the liqueur that takes 30+ days produce.
After today, my goal is to get my holiday act together. Tomorrow, I will finish our gift giving list and start addressing the holiday cards. I want to know what it is like to have holiday things done before they get here.
Super good news: Micah brought home a piece of cheesecake from the bakery at his store last night. Double Yippie!!!

it is like a walk down memory lane
Now if you want to find a vast variety of drink recipes go here. There are punch, cocoa, alcoholic, non-alcoholic, smoothies, and shake recipes. This is one of my favorite sites. I am making a liqueur for the holidays, and this is where I found the recipe.
amazing products

For all of you that have little boys, would you use this product? Here is where I found this. Cool stuff here, but I am not too sure about this.
let's try again
Daria and I went to Big Lots after school today. I love the prices, but the store is always a mess. It is such a challenge pushing a cart around. I bought Daria stickers, toy fish, and underwear. She already has a bunch of under the sea toys, and the fish were only $1.99 and it came with 9 different fish. After nap, she is going to have an under the sea adventure in the living room. That is why I love Big Lots.
Let's note that Daria has asked me twice since Halloween was over when we are going to put up the Christmas stuff. It is way too early decorate, and I am already tired of it in all the stores.
Speaking of Christmas, Micah's mom told us yesterday she would not mind a professional portrait of us for Christmas. (Wow, that was a straight-forward hint.) There is really no way this will happen for many, many reasons. Both Micah and I cannot stand doing the whole professional picture thing. I was shocked at her request and so was Micah. I really like regular, candid pictures and that is usually what we give out during the holidays. I can feel the stress of the holiday madness starting to leak in.
Today in the Pacific Northwest, the weather is cold, rainy, and windy. The heat is on, and hot cocoa is sounding better each moment I think about it. It is suppose to rain forever because it is November. I really do not mind the rain, but I am tired of the mud, leaves and pine needles we keep tracking in. I refuse to mop more than once a week, unless there is an emergency. The yard needs to be raked, but the rain has not stopped long enough to dry thing out just a bit. There is going to be 24+ inches of snow falling in the mountains tonight and tomorrow. I bet we have a few snow days this year down here at sea level.
I am off to drink cocoa and stand by the heat vent like the cats.
Let's hope this makes it to post.
