What are you proud of?
Daria being picked as a honor student for the month of March. There is an assembly tomorrow and pictures and tears.
Soup
What is the best thing you’ve ever won as a prize?
Tons of money, but I have not won it yet.
Salad
Name something you do that is a waste of time.
On rainy days, I watch very bad television, like MTV. I get sucked in, and it is very difficult to look away. Damn you, MTV! What happened to the videos???
Main Course
In what year of your life did you change the most?
When I was 26 - got married, had a baby, and graduated from college. So much in one year, how do you top that??
Dessert
Where is a place you consider to be very tranquil?
A nice secluded beach that is sandy and warm with the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore.

puppies
Obviously, I am a cat person, so when good friends tell me that having a puppy is like having a baby, it drives me crazy. First of all, it is NOTHING like having a baby!!! Second, I do NOT care how your other dog is jealous of the new puppy, and the cat is "babysitting" the puppy while you get some sleep. And I think it is ridiculous that you and your husband cannot get the lovin' on because the puppy is in the room, and the puppy MUST cuddle with you. It is insane, I tell you. And I have to admit I dread coming to your house to meet your new addition. Why? The odors from the puppy NOT being housebroken, the sound of the horrible bark that you find so cute, the jumping on my legs (why is that okay??), and the chewing - on my shoes, purse, or anything else I might have on my person.
I am sorry, but the cat inside of me just does not get it or understand the appeal.

Hello Spring!!
To welcome the first day of spring, Daria and I washed my car.
Now, keep in mind, it was barely 50 degrees and cloudy with a cool breeze.
But, by golly, we finally got the car washed.
It is not clean, but it is cleaner because I am positive we missed a few spots.
The next spring cleaning task: the very dusty blinds.
Any volunteers????
In baby news...
I had my 24 week appointment this week with my o.b., and it went good. There were no lectures about my weight, and that would be because I have not gained any in the last 4 weeks. I must be doing something right - I think we can call it stress. The nurse who measured my tummy sang little songs to herself while she was pressing the measuring tape into my pubic bone. Ouch!! Did NOT like that - plus she commented how our little boy was going to give us trouble. Why say such a thing?? And what is that suppose to mean? I am not finding the humor in comments like that these days, and the nurse's was not the first time I have heard something like that. It kind of reminds me of the strangers who feel like they have to come up and rub the belly, which, surprisingly, has not happened yet.

toast, anyone?
Our beautiful, black KitchenAid Toaster died today (not the same one as shown).
It was 7 years old.
Is that long for a toaster??
It was the best toaster I have ever owned.
We have toast everyday around here.
Tonight we went to Big Lots and bought a ten dollar one.
I know it will not be the same, but who wants to be it lasts longer than 7 years???

10 week sub
The same week we learned the pregnancy was placed in the high risk category, Daria's teacher sent a note home telling us she was going to Italy for 10 weeks with her family (and it was NOT an emergency - just to go live). I was less than thrilled with this news - in fact, it brought tears to my eyes, but I blame that on my emotional state at the time. The more I thought about it, the more upset I was because I think it is unfair to bring such a drastic change to the whole kindergarten class. I know her teacher wants to be with her husband and all - and I completely understand that. It is just that I feel that she has a responsibility to these kids (especially mine) to stay with them for the entire year, so they can succeed and be ready for 1st grade. (Just to note: I would not be so upset if she was leaving for a medical reason or a major emergency.)
Yesterday was the first day with the substitute, and it appears things are going well. Daria enjoys the sub, but says she misses her teacher. I keep telling her she will be back in June (for the last 2 weeks of school). But June is SO far away for a 6 year old!
This is one of those things that I (or any parent) cannot do anything about. We can complain, but her teacher is gone, and the sub is here til June. Let's just hope it is only the parents who are traumatized about the change and not the kids.

where I am at
The last few weeks have been very stressful around here, and I am finally at a place where I can talk about it without getting TOO weepy.
Last month, I mentioned I had an amino. And everything turned out fine with that. No bad results (yippie!) except for the fact my doctor thought I was gaining too much in a 4 week period. Of course, I have been dreading my next appointment and the infamous weigh-in because who knows what kind of lecture I will get.
But the weight issue is besides the point these days because a few days after that last appointment, I had my 20 week ultrasound. Before the ultrasound, I specifically asked the doctor if the ultrasound tech would come and get her if she found anything wrong, and the doctor said she would. Well, we had the ultrasound, and no doctor was called in. We were given lots of pictures and left the office in a happy mood.
That was on a Friday.
The following Monday, I received a call from a doctor's office I have NEVER heard of, and they wanted me to make an appointment for more tests. I had no idea what they were talking about, so I told them I would call my o.b. to find out what was going on and call them back. I found out from my o.b. that she wanted me to go have a more sophisticated ultrasound because she thought the baby's kidneys looked larger than they should be.
Well, this news brought on more water works, and I called back the other doctor's office to make my appointment - which, by the way, would not happen until 10 days later. The waiting was killing me because looking up stuff on the Internet is not very helpful. It just takes the worrying to another level.
When the day finally arrived for the high-tech ultrasound, my step-mom went with me because I was thinking positive and believing with all my heart that everything would be fine. The ultrasound took over an hour - very long time to be lying on your back. And then we met with the doctor.....
As my step-mom and I were sitting in his office, the doctor came in and told us that our baby boy has enlarged kidneys with cysts, and there is a partial blockage in his urethra, so all of his urine is NOT leaving his body. This was NOT good news because there is NOTHING they can do about this while he is inside the womb. The good news about this is my amniotic fluid is very full - which means he is peeing, and that means his lungs are developing and all his other organs and brain look good. And since the blockage is only partial and NOT complete, he should keep on peeing, and it should not get worse as the pregnancy moves forward.
The doctor told us that nothing is guaranteed or 100% with this, and the ultrasound cannot detect everything - so there could be other issues OR there could not be. And of course, he told us nothing can happen until our little boy is born and becomes a patient. And even then, it could be as simple the whole thing fixes itself naturally OR as bad as kidney failure which equals dialysis and kidney transplant. Those are the 2 extremes, so, of course, there is a bunch of stuff in between that could go on, but it is all unknown territory until he arrives.
Until then, I will be getting ultrasounds every 3-4 weeks to monitor the amniotic fluid levels and the size of the little man. I am now in the high risk pregnancy category, even though I am feeling good (physically). The doctor reassured me that I do not need to change my day-to-day routine, but I should take it easy because I am now a little more stressed out than usual.
Another fact we learned from this high-tech ultrasound is that our lovely boy is big for his age. At the ultrasound, I was 22 weeks along. His head size measured 24 weeks! With that bit of news, my new doctor wants to induce me 2-3 weeks early so baby boy can become a patient and not weigh over 10lbs. at birth. So instead of a July birthday, it looks like it will be June. Keep your fingers crossed that it is after Daria is done with school for the year.

Feast One Hundred & Thirty Five
Appetizer
Name two things that made you smile this week.
1. Daria's winter conference went VERY well. She is doing excellent in school, and it was so wonderful to have some good/positive news for a change.
2. Curb Your Enthusiasm is coming back in September for a 6th season!! Yippy!!!
Soup
Fill in the blank: Don't you hate it when ________?
Don't you hate it when your cat gets so stressed that she licks her lower belly bald and basically gives herself her own bikini wax?? In other words, Skoonus is ready for summer and her bikini!
Salad
When you can't go to sleep, what is your personal remedy to help yourself drift into Lullabyland?
Chamomile tea does the job sometimes, but I have been so tired these days, sleeping has not been a problem. Now, wanting to wake up and stay awake is an entirely different story.
Main Course
What is something about which you've always wondered but have not yet found a good answer?
Seriously, I cannot pick just one thing. I wonder about all kinds of things on a daily basis.
Dessert
What is your favorite pasta dish?
mac-n-cheese (homemade, of course), pesto w/ penne pasta, fettuccine alfredo - too many favorites to list.

All the kindergartners had a music program last week at Daria's school. It was very silly and very cute. All the kids were suppose to wear their pj's.

Singing her heart out!

Check out the pics!
Here she is ready to go sing and dance!

The crab walk was awesome because she kept going around and around in circles.

field trip
I volunteered to go on Daria's class trip tomorrow. I will be in charge of my child plus one other. I really do not know what I was thinking because I will have to stay afterwards and help in the class because it is my day. That is 6 consecutive hours with kindergarteners! Will I make it?
Let's hope.

I love the eye doctor!
They do not weigh you.
And when your eyesight has not changed, you feel like you just passed a calculus test.
Second year in a row I have not had to replace my lenses!
That is something that has not happened since before 4th grade!
