I swear, I am still here

I cannot believe I have not posted anything since the 18th!! You probably think I have been super busy doing wonderful fun things.

Yes, I have been busy, but I have not been doing wonderful fun things.

Unless your idea of fun is searching for the best deals on prescription formula, or worrying about Bauer's poop and working with the dietican to figure out what is triggering his soupy dark green poo, or trying to find a pocket of time every day to do something fun with Daria in between the feeding and medicine schedule.

I cannot believe Daria begins the first grade next week. Where did the summer go?? Our temperatures this summer have been soooo mild. Today was like 85, but usually it has been in the low to mid 70's, and there has not been a bunch of super sunny days. We have barely filled up the pool this summer - last year we spent almost everyday by the kiddie pool.

Daria is very excited for school to start. She has really missed her friends all summer. We have had a couple of playdates with her best bud, but she is really missing the rest of her friends. Since I had Bauer 2 days before school was out, I never received the phone list for all her classmates. And I put our number on it, but no one has called - go figure.

I am thrilled that she is so excited about beginning a new phase of her life, and I just hope she has a wonderful and positive first grade experience.

Speaking of changes, did I mention Daria's feet?? I took her to get some new shoes for school, and when we had her feet measured, they measured 2 sizes bigger than what she was wearing. Boy, did I feel like a horrible mom! She has never complained about her shoes bothering her! 2 sizes and no whining!

In other news, Micah begins his vacation on Friday. That is his birthday too. We have no plans for his vacation because Daria starts school, and we did not plan anything. I will be baking up this cake because he is a lover of Butterfingers. And he picked out a fossil watch for his gift. Micah usually always picks out what he gets for his birthday and usually Christmas. It takes the fun out of gift giving. I always like it when the person I give a gift to is surprised and happy about their present.
I must go now because I have to make my Target list for tomorrow morning. Yippee!

2 months

Bauer turned 2 months old this week.
He is such a cute 12.2 lb baby boy....

The time Daria spends talking to him and singing is priceless, and he loves to listen to his big sister.

I hope they grow up to be the best of friends.

And then there is always the bond Bauer is forming with Charlie...

peach oatmeal bread

So good
So quick
So easy

You can find the recipe in Whole Grain Baking Book by King Arthur Flour.

feast 156

Time to enjoy a little feast.

Appetizer
Describe your laundry routine. Do you have a certain day when you do it all, or do you just wash whatever you need for the next day?
I end up doing laundry whenever the basket is completely full - that means there is enough for a load. And it does not take long for it to fill up these days, either. In the summer, I do laundry on the nicest days of the week, so I can hang everything up on the line.

Soup
In your opinion, what age will you be when you’ll consider yourself to truly be old?
over 85

Salad
What is one of your goals? Is it short-term, long-term, or both?
-raise wonderful children who grow up to be successful adults (long term)
-move (hopefully short term)
-finish the back to school shopping (short term)
-remember to do all the little things I must do every day (long and short term)
Many goals - could not pick just one.

Main Course
Name something unbelievable you’ve seen or read lately.
a preview for the movie version of this. Why?? Of course, Daria saw it too and she really wants to see it.

Dessert
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how happy are you today?
8.7

who came up with this one??

this and that

I feel I have so much I COULD be writing about, but where is the time to sit here and get it all out????

No, I have not seen The Simpsons movie yet! I know...how, why, what the hell - you call yourself a fan!?
My plan is to see it next week in the afternoon when the theatre will not be so full of people. I love going to movies on a weekday afternoon when capacity is low - it feels like a private viewing.

I STILL have about 10 thank-you cards to fill out and mail, and I am sitting here on the computer not getting them done, AGAIN! Why is it so hard to get the simple things done these days?

I took my last prenatal vitamin yesterday, and I had my 6-week (actually 7 1/2 week) check-up by the doctor.

Excited about Daria starting school in 4 weeks. Guilty because I am secretly happy she will be somewhere 5 days a week, 6 hours each day. Scared because it is 1st grade and she will be there 5 days a week, 6 hours a day.

Summer guilty pleasure: this bad, bad piece of television. So bad that you just cannot turn away.

7 weeks

Bauer is 7 weeks old today. Next week he will be 2 months old - WOW! The days are just moving by!
He is growing so much - almost 11 lbs!
And we are starting to get into a groove with his daily routine.
His schedule is hectic because he takes some sort of medicine 6 times a day and is given a shot 3 times a week. Some medicines cannot be taken near each other or with the formula. Being away from home for long periods of time is not happening. Short, close to home outings are where its at these days. And that is okay because just getting out of the house with 2 kids is more challenging than it should be.
Speaking of 2 kids....we are a one child household this weekend. Daria went camping with my parents, and she left yesterday. It has been SO quiet around here. I have to admit - I love the quiet.
Let's hope I can get a few extra things done around here - not likely.
