OMG, the holidays are coming!

Actually, they are here! Tomorrow is the beginning of the holiday season - we hate to admit it, but we know it is true.
I really wanted to have my holiday plan all figured out by now. My slate is still blank! I keep asking Micah what he wants to do about the holidays and birthdays coming up - he says I am really good at that stuff and he just does not know. Lame!!
I am just fresh out of holiday gift ideas this year. I mean I will do my usual baking - and I have a few new ideas for that. But everything else - I am stumped.
Here's hoping that something comes to me soon!

Halloween 2007 (yes, I know it is early)

Tonight was the Fall Carnival and cake contest at Daria's school.
Here is the cake - it was not that difficult to pull together. I made the cake from scratch yesterday, and this morning I assembled and decorated it. You cannot see it, but the cake is a black magic chocolate cake. It is one of the best cakes ever! It is the same cake I made for our wedding reception.

I do not know if I won any prizes, but I do know someone picked it to take home. They won it in a contest. I just hope I get my giant wooden cutting board back that the cake is sitting on. I am trying to let it go, but I use it all the time and I have a challenging time letting things go.Now, Daria dressed up in her costume tonight. She was so thrilled to wear it - we have had it for weeks. She was very cute and sang the whole way to school.

And of course, we cannot forget our Lil' Devil....

this is all I have time for

I bought this desk calendar - it rocks!

For some crazy reason, I decided to enter the Halloween Cakewalk contest at Daria's school. It is for the fall carnival on Friday. I am making a ghost cake. I do not know why I wanted to do this because it is not like I have a bunch of free time on my hands these days. My biggest dilemma was how I was going to get it to the school. One of my best friends is going to come over early Friday morning and hold it in the car while I drive to school. I so appreciate her willingness to be over her before 8:30 in the morning.

So, tomorrow I will baking and assembling a ghost cake - something I have NEVER done before. Wish me luck and I will post pictures when it is ready for presentation.

Check out this cute hat our neighbor gave to Bauer:
Must go to bed before baby wakes up - again.

wake up call

Our wonderful cat Charlie wakes us up every morning just so he can go to sleep 5 minutes later - minus the bat.

Guess who got an exercise saucer???

Yes, Bauer did.

And he loves it!

everyday - busy, busy

Every single day this past week has been so freakin' busy. And I blame it all on the half days Daria had at school. 2 1/2 hours is just not enough time to get any good projects or errands done.

Monday:
Daria to school and then Bauer to lab to get blood taken.
Bauer back home to hang with Micah - me to the grocery store to shop quickly.
Get home and swiftly put everything away before I have to be at the school to pick Daria up.
Pick up 1st graders and race off to the produce stand and back home to make lunch.
Eat lunch and get Bauer ready for his appointment with the kidney doctor.
Daria hangs with Micah.
Bauer gets good news: no more weekly shots!!
His red blood cell count is up and as long as it stays up he will not have to go back on the shot! YEAH!!
We are a little happy about that.
Finally home - made dinner and cleaned and finally stopped to sleep.

Tuesday:
Daria to school for her big 2 1/2 hour day.
I rushed off to clean my grandmother's house and get back before school is out.
That was a chore, but I did it.
And I was even able to stop and get a latte.
Get to the school and it is conference day!
Daria is doing great!
Her teacher is so nice and had such wonderful things to say about her.
It was a good time.
Daria and I rushed home because Micah had to get to a meeting in Seattle and he was with the baby.

Wednesday:
Get Daria to school and finally a day I do not have to rush off to do something.
Come home and veg out until the time flies by and I have to get back to pick her up.
I realized I really do not like the 2 1/2 hour half days for school - school district should make it just one full day for the week. And that would be that and much easier for us - the parents.
Poured down rain all afternoon, so our day was spent inside coloring, eating and watching princess movies.

Thursday:
No school!
We decided to go to the zoo because it was the first nice day in a long time. And it was Bauer's first trip to the zoo - but I forgot the camera because my brain is not functioning normally anymore.
Zoo was fun and made the day go by faster.
I ended up going out with some of the moms from Daria's school. This was a first time.
It was fun and we will have to do it again sometime.
It was my first margarita since before getting pregnant.
Good times!

Friday:
Again, no school.
Bauer had an ultrasound.
It is for his urology appointment this next Wednesday.
He was such a trooper and did not cry during the whole procedure.
Came home and did laundry load after load.
Watched more princess crappy videos with torturing songs.
Dinner was made and vacuuming was done.
Finally the week was ending - but wait there is swimming class on Saturday!

Saturday:
Go to bank.
Mail bills.
Off to swim class.
Feed Bauer while Daria bounces around the shallow end not listening to the swim teacher.
I am so happy her lessons are through the park district and are very inexpensive.
Come home and step-mom comes over to buy Sally Foster stuff from Daria.
Daria manages to sucker both my parents to agree to take her back home for a sleepover.
I told them they did not have to, but they really have a hard time telling her "no".
Suckers!
Bauer and I had a mellow night at home while Micah worked.
I started cleaning Daria's room because Bauer is moving in this next week.
Her room was SO messy - I ended up putting everything in the middle of the room and sorting it out Sunday morning.
It was a bit overwhelming how much crap she has accumulated for such a small person with no income.

Now here we are at Sunday about to start a new week and do everything all over again - but just in a different order.
Good thing there are no half days this week, maybe I will get something done or maybe not.

feast 163

It's Friday!

Appetizer
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how much do you look forward to your birthday?
Since I hit my thirties, I would say my excitement rates about a 7.5.

Soup
What is one word you don’t like the sound, spelling, or meaning of?
I do not even know how to answer this one because I cannot come up with ONE word that disappoints me in the sound, spelling and definition department.

Salad
Do you wear sunglasses when you’re outside? If so, what does your current pair look like?
No, I do not wear sunglasses right now due to the fact I wear glasses and do not have prescription shades.

Main Course
If you were to write a book, to whom would you dedicate it?
It depends on the topic of the book, but I would definitely have Micah and the kids in the dedication.

Dessert
Name a beverage that you enjoy.
Just one! chocolate soy smoothie.

One of many reasons Daria brings her lunch to school.

I am counting

George W. Bush leaves office in 475 days. But who's counting?
